Neethane En Ponvasantham

Neethane En Ponvasantham – Gautham Menon has framed the narration like reading the pages of a persons diary.. His idea has been that the audience would be able find few pages similar to their diary…. It had only been partially successful… Majority may not connect with it… Through out the movie the lead actors are not predictable…. Their reasons for fight seem to have been force fitted… If care had been taken in the screenplay and characterization… ( like VTV ) …. This would have been a memorable movie with a novel narration style…

Jack Reacher

Jack Reacher – Movie based on the book One Shot by Lee Child. Five shots on one target and a undoubted suspect arrested… When the police think there is nothing much left in the case Jack Reacher sees what others haven’t… The rest of the movie is about how he unravels the mystery… It’s a bit slow for a Tom Cruise starrer… The script demands some serious watching unlike the MI series… However some of the antics added for Tom Cruise fans looks out of place for the plot… Despite the slowness it makes a watchable flick but not a memorable one… Watch it for Jack Reacher there might be more of the series coming up…

Dabangg 2

Dabangg 2 – A predictable sequel to Dabangg recreates magic in parts…. It’s very difficult to make sequel of a blockbuster as there is always a confusion on what to retain and what to leave from the previous version… What worked for Arbaaz is retaining the masala cop image of Robin Hood Pandey and his ways of fighting the baddies… But where he struggled is not able to leave back the characters of Pandeyji’s family… They seem to be an excess baggage for the movie… If you have liked Dabangg and are in for a masala movie where logic doesn’t apply… You won’t be disappointed….

The Hobbit: An unexpected journey IMAX 3D

The Hobbit: An unexpected journey IMAX 3D – Peter Jackson has just turned the book to life… I was surprised that given the size of the book…is a three part series warranted? It is very detailed and you might find it slow and lengthy if you haven’t read the book… Peter Jackson might have run the risk of overdoing it…. we have to wait for the next two parts… The 48 fps format makes the 3D viewing spectacular… Probably the next best to Avatar in 3D… If you are a fan of The Hobbit then its a must watch … Watch it in 3D you will love every bit of it… Can’t wait for the next two parts and subsequently an abridged version…

Must Watch – For LOTR fans

Talaash

Talaash – Reema Kagti has done a very nice job … Kudos to her and Zoya to not to have carried away with Aamir’s star value but stay on track with the story… The script is very engaging.. With movies having an anticlimax you might either love it or hate it… Depends on how convinced you are with the turn of events… Go with an open mind you would enjoy the movie which has the story as its protagonist rather than its stars…. Anything more I say would be a spoiler 🙂

Life of Pi

Life of Pi – its difficult to convert a literature with a philosophical theme into a successful screenplay… Ang Lee and team has done the best in bringing Pi ‘s magical journey to life… From the French influenced Pondicherry, the perilous storm in the ocean, the serene ocean life all captured and represented very beautifully… Not sure if the deep philosophical reflection would please the movie audience looking for commercial entertainment… It’s definitely worth a watch and you will enjoy it more when you entrench yourself in Pi’s quest for the Supreme…

Thuppaki

Thuppakki – overloaded with entertainment… Murugadoss doesn’t fail to entertain the audience with a different plot and storyline… He could have avoided the unnecessary scenes added to please vijay fans… The bold move he had done with Vijayakanth in Ramana worked wonders… He should believe in this more… Having said that… but for the dragging songs and few scenes the movie is worth a watch…!

Maatraan

Maattraan – If you go with a checklist that you would want to see in a KV Anand flick, stunning visuals, different plot, pacy script, bar song, twist in the plot… you would come with everything checked… a decent entertainer… but still stereotypical for KV Anand and Surya..  If you compare it with Ko you might be disappointed… the difference between the two has been that the Twist in the tale was broken in the first half unlike Ko where he was able to save it till the end… Not a bad movie…
