Tamil Movie Reviews

Ameerin Aadhi Baghavan

Ameerin Aadhi Baghavan – very average outing for Ameer… He seems to have been distracted too much in the filming of the movie… It starts with the promise of a action packed gangster flick and in the build up phase goes all over the place…. The movie’s production quality is very good… Very promising for Tamil Cinema… A more focused screenplay and plot could have made it a nice watch…. You can give it a skip….

Kadal

Kadal – Very philosophical, the movie’s promotion has spoilt its box office run. Audience had come to the theaters expecting a breezy romantic drama like Alaipayuthe but ended watching a soul searching story and a fight between the Evil and the Good in one’s self and how love helps in overcoming the evil in thyself. Maniratnam and Rajiv Menon have made you live in a fisherman colony…The movie is not everyone… if you go with a open mind Kadal might be inspiring…

Vishwaroopam

Vishwaroopam – Kamal’s mega budget outing lives up to the expectations of the hype around it. Although the plot of the movie is something we had seen numerous times, the backdrop is new and keeps you engaged throughout. It is pleasant to watch some well choreographed stunts. It is also welcome to see that Kamal has dominated in direction and script writing while balancing out his act with other characters as per the story demands. Kamal’s performance is a given but what stands out significantly is Rahul Bose’s performance. Minus some portions where the story moves slowly…Its a must watch!

Neethane En Ponvasantham

Neethane En Ponvasantham – Gautham Menon has framed the narration like reading the pages of a persons diary.. His idea has been that the audience would be able find few pages similar to their diary…. It had only been partially successful… Majority may not connect with it… Through out the movie the lead actors are not predictable…. Their reasons for fight seem to have been force fitted… If care had been taken in the screenplay and characterization… ( like VTV ) …. This would have been a memorable movie with a novel narration style…

Thuppaki

Thuppakki – overloaded with entertainment… Murugadoss doesn’t fail to entertain the audience with a different plot and storyline… He could have avoided the unnecessary scenes added to please vijay fans… The bold move he had done with Vijayakanth in Ramana worked wonders… He should believe in this more… Having said that… but for the dragging songs and few scenes the movie is worth a watch…!

Maatraan

Maattraan – If you go with a checklist that you would want to see in a KV Anand flick, stunning visuals, different plot, pacy script, bar song, twist in the plot… you would come with everything checked… a decent entertainer… but still stereotypical for KV Anand and Surya..  If you compare it with Ko you might be disappointed… the difference between the two has been that the Twist in the tale was broken in the first half unlike Ko where he was able to save it till the end… Not a bad movie…

Azhagar Saamiyin Kuthirai

Azhagar Saamiyin Kuthirai – got to watch it on TV. A very nice movie set in the rural India in the early 80’s.The movie revolves around a simple incident that means a lot to the village and finally solves all the knots sending out a powerful message against superstition, caste-ism and demonstrates human values as the foundation for a healthy society.. The characters are carved out of real life – a good movie

Must Watch

Kadhalil Sodhapuvadhu Eppadi

Kadhalil Sodhapuvadhu Eppadi – A decent attempt in making a short film into a full length movie. Certain movies need to be kept precise this is one of it. The first half is too lengthy and dragging… Although nth adoption of Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus it is still worth the watch for its freshness and first person narration…
